This is a great example of how to title a blog post! As to the post itself, most people would say the threat is over since the deal is off (doesn't Yahoo wish it could get a do over! :) )... but I would caution to never count Bill Gates out. Google may be the giant now, but I'm keeping my eye on MSN. I think they're getting better... and they're not above copying the competition (google) and making it better. I don't think this is Google's biggest risk though. I think mistakes they make themselves are the biggest threat to there success not anything other do. When I look in my logs, every search engine other than Google combined don't add up to the total searches from Google. We'll see. I fear that what it will wind up being is a truly one player game - Google. MS has a way of screwing up everything it touches... It's not like Microsoft is "close, but just losing the race". They're WAY behind, at least based on the areas I've noticed. I really don’t know what to think about this yet.

However, their methods of policing it is extremely unfair and wrong. If I wanted to get technical, like many have in detail, I could find LOADS of sites that sell links in one way or another, which haven't been affected in the least bit. Microsoft was smart to branch off into gaming and other areas because they've made very bad choices in the other areas. Google invested heavily in mobile applications and web-based products. Yahoo was primarily news oriented and a lot of their services will overlap with Microsoft. They both have search, e-mail, etc., but they don't have as much to offer in the web-based software areas, which is the future. I'm not saying its a waste of money by Microsoft, I'm just saying that I don't think Google will be vary threatened because they have better positioned themselves for the future.
