Taking Massive Action – The 10X Rule
October 18th, 2011 | 17 comments
A couple weeks ago I ordered a book called “The 10x Rule” by Grant Cardone. And although this isn’t exactly a review of that book primarily because I haven’t even finished it, it has got my butt in gear over the past week.
Although there is obviously much more to the book than this, the one thing that it has driven in to me is that massive action equals massive success. It’s something, I think, we all know, but it’s also something that we all need a reminder of from time to time…at least I do!
So I’m using this post simply as a reminder. Just think about how much time you’ve spent (me too!) on your personal facebook page when you could have been working. Think about how much time you spend reading news articles. Think about how much time you’ve spent on smoke breaks (like me, before I quit a few years ago.) Think about how much time you spend each and every day on things that do not deserve your time, at least not during the work day, or the time you block off to spend working on your online business if you’re not full time.
How much time do you think that is? Now imagine if all of that time was spent putting up affiliate sites or writing content or building backlinks or learning a new technique.
It took me a few years to make a full time income online, but I’m absolutely convinced that if I would have taken massive action and truly got the MOST out of every minute that I was supposed to be working, that I would have reached that level of success in half that time if not sooner!
So for me, just after reading half of the book, it has really motivated me to reevaluate my work time and resist laziness! I’ve squeezed much more work time out of my days and I believe I’ve already made more money just in the past week by very simply doing MORE!

Thanks for the headsup, Josh! I may have to check this book out. I always enjoy a good motivational read, and I haven’t heard of this one yet. Let us know how it turns out, eh?

Time is a precious commodity. Success is a numbers game . Some sites make money, some don’t but generally the more you have the more you will make. You can spend your day reading emails or working on your sites.

Hey Josh
Great advice as usual. Definitely gonna pick this book by Cardone because of your recommendation.
I just finished reading through Darren Hardy’s “The Compound Effect” and it’s right in line with what you are saying here. What I like about Hardy’s book is it makes you accountable through a simple technique. If you haven’t read it..I highly recommend
Thanks again for reminding us what we gotta keep doing.
Off to do some linking!
Regards,
Mark

Josh,
Your post resonated with me.
I find it’s not so much the type of “breaks” that you mentioned. For me, it’s more trying to do too much – watch that training video, listen to that webinar, check those emails. Those are valuable but at the same time they are time consumers and when I’m doing them I’m not being productive directly for my business.
I know that “massive action equals massive success”. Reading your post brings that fact home. I’m printing it out to keep myself focused more on taking action and less on the other stuff.
Thanks for the post.

Josh, you must be psychic as this has been my thinking the past few days…..I’ve just not been working efficiently. So, I now time myself: one hour to write a new article, one hour on Twitter building my following, one hour building backlinks, etc. and now I schedule out my coming day the night before. It works!

Josh,
First, I have to say you are one of the literal handful of IM’s I trust. Thank you for all you do, I’ve followed you for some time now.
Second, I agree with Lisa, you must have like esp or something. This week I have really buckled down and started making better use of my time.
I take a 2 mile walk in the morning and I plan out my day then, right down the post-walk stretch. First is my time I clock in for my SEO client, and so on. I also take care of my crippled up mother, so I MUST ration my time out wisely.
You know, in online college they teach you to manage your time by actually using a time sheet looking form. Then, as Lisa teaches here, to mark down how much time for what duty.
This book sounds interesting.
You are an inspiration. Oh, I plan on buying your Offline Guru course as soon as I can get the money.
Thank you,
Kevin

Right on! There’s a Chinese saying that goes..”No one who can rice before dawn 365 days a year fails to make his family rich.’ Got that from Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Outliers’. On top of everything, discipline in which I believe we need to practice each day.

Nice post Josh. Sounds like a good book. I love reading motivational and business type books too. I have too many half read ones though! Hope you let us know the ending of that one.. “the 10x time rule”.

Hey Josh, I’ve just been rebuking myself about this very matter recently. I’ve allowed myself to become more unfocused than I should and I’m wasting too much time on worthless things (TV, etc). The book sounds like it is well worth the read if it can help get you out of a rut and encourage you to be much more productive.
Thanks for taking the time to mention it here. I hope by the time you finish the book that you gain even more benefit.
Blessings,
Angie

Wow, that’s quite a wake up call. We all work hard, but “massive action equals massive success” is a strong reminder that I’m not producing massive action. Thanks.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for recommending the book (your link didn’t work) so I ordered directly. I have read the first 7 chapters, what a wake up call.
Well written and so practical for anyone who wants to achieve great things.
Thanks for the heads up.

Josh,
Great Point. My work habits get sloppy from time to time and I need a boot once in a while. I must put out Good Quality Massive Action to get Massive results. I catch myself creating little habits to get away from work. Stamp out Bad Habits.

Someone put me onto this book and I’ve stumbled on your review. Based on that, I’m thinking I should buy it and get into action. Thanks for posting.
