Watch out for Fake Marketers
August 8th, 2007 | 5 commentsAfter almost 3 years of marketing online I’ve started to notice more and more “fake” marketers. Many of these people are very good at building a reputation with “newbies.”
These fake marketers are people who truly love Internet marketing but never seemed to “make it.” Now, don’t get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with someone who tries but just doesn’t find success. But there IS something wrong with a person who never succeeds but talks daily about how much money they’re making.
This is particularly bad in the forums, where the new marketers go to learn. They read post after post looking for ideas. They tend to listen to those who have a high post count, thinking it means something.
So how do you know if you’re dealing with a “fake marketer?” Look at the sites in their forum signature. Opt-in to their newsletter. Observe how they are treated by others that seem to be successful.
The fake marketer will have a lousy Website, lousy newsletter and they will CONTRADICT themselves without realizing it.
“I only made $10,000 last week, horrible week.” a week later “I had the best week ever, I make $8,000 last week.”
Many of them are completely obvious if you know any better.
So that’s my weekly rant. Look out for the fakers!
Heres a disclaimer for you
I’m not a millionaire. I haven’t even hit 6 figures online yet. But I do consider myself successful online and you will not find any crazy, contradicting claims from me anywhere on the Internet!

Know what you mean, but for those who just teach it and don’t actually make much, it’s usually “teachers teach because they can’t do.” Otherwise most of them would be doing instead.

Too true. Just in the time since I’ve joined the Warrior Forum (about a month now), I’ve been amazed at the people who will–in the same day–ask how to make money in one thread and then post a WSO that explains how to make tons of money in another.

Jason, I don’t think I agree with you on that one. Personally, I teach and do. Am I a “guru?” nope! but I do well. Teaching will help others and make you some money at the same time.

Hi Josh,
This is great stuff. Hype is well
off the charts now because
there’s such an “abundance” of
fake marketers.
Not that I earn 6 figures as well
but its good income so I can
take my wife for great holidays
Cheers,
Vern

LOL
I had to laugh at this one. I have seen it in other forums also. I tend to believe that the ones that do not talk about how much they are making are either 1 new at the game or 2 they are making it happen.
My Motto : The one that talks the loudest is doing the least!
