Video Marketing is Getting Huge – Dont Get Left Behind

August 25th, 2007 | 2 comments

Video marketing is something that I regret to say I haven’t been doing much of. My biggest problem is that I’m a horrible speaker. I’m best sitting in front of my computer typing away. Unfortunately for me, and possibly you, video marketing is gaining a huge amount of popularity. It isn’t new news but it’s news nonetheless. Bloggers and marketers in general continue to talk about video marketing and they reap the benefits of viral videos.

Now, I can produce a tutorial with Camtasia, no problem (after 10 or so takes) but getting in front of a camera is something totally different and something I’m going to have to work on.

The fact is, one viral video has the potential of driving thousands, even millions, of targeted visitors to your site. The most popular video on Google right now has over 4,503,962 views! How many views did your last article receive? Granted, many of the videos with that number of views are of good looking women doing something sexy or ugly guys doing something UNsexy, but it’s a testimonial to the power of video.

I just found a great article on how YouTube ranks videos at Jim Kukral’s blog. OK, so he doesn’t have the answer but it’s a good read nonetheless. There are very few hints as to what the determining factors are for high organic rankings, as Jim points out, but one thing is obvious, quality always wins.

Whether you focus more toward organic search or the viral effect, videos are making a strong push to the front and those who don’t jump on the bandwagon are going to lose alot of potential traffic thats for sure.

YouTube isn’t the only video hotspot either. It’s by far the biggest, for now, but sites like Videosift and Revver are up and comers.

So do as I say and not as I do. Go get yourself a good camcorder and clear your throat. That viral video isn’t going to make itself ;)

P.S. video blogging coming soon!

    You’ll find a good one at http://www.iddl.vt.edu/instructors/camtasia/

Camtasia is a little pricy but it’s well worth the investment! You can get Camtasia at http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp

    Hi Josh

I totally agree that video marketing has huge potential, but like you am a bit awkward in front of the camera, but that’s something I’ll have to overcome as it is my main project for 2009.

You mentioned Camtasia but have you seen Jing (can’t remember the URL – but easily findable in Google) it’s free & very easy to use & gives a good intro to creating video for newbies.

Getting info on video marketing (especially for affiliates/internet marketers) is still pretty scarce at the moment, but have managed to collate enough info to put together the basis of an ebook (work in progress), although I may just keep all the notes myself & not bother with the ebook, as it’s not an area of IM I have spent any time in.

    What do you think?
