Normal Sites vs. Blogs – Why You Should Start a Blog

July 30th, 2007 | One comment

If you’re like me, you’ve been creating and marketing Websites for some time now. You may or may not have started a blog yet but you’ve surely heard the term “Blog” a million and one times.

As with most things, if it’s being talked about theres a reason!

I’ll admit, I should have started blogging a looong time ago but I put it off and put it off.

The following are just a few of the many reasons why running a blog is a good idea:

1. Similar to a mailing list, a blog has the potential of generating subscribers, those who want to hear what you have to say and regularly read the information you put out. If you are honest and only recommend proven services and programs, these subscribers (RSS Subscribers) are more opt to buy through your link. Whereas a normal html site, in most cases, isn’t as easily to update and when you do update it, they may or may not see the updates.

2. Blogs are VERY easy to update, decreasing the mental block that many have when updating their Websites. You just log in, click a link, write your post and publish it. Whereas a normal site requires you to connect to your FTP, format the page, save it and link it to other pages on your site.

3. If you use WordPress (the software that this blog runs on and highly recommended) there are hundreds of Awesome plugins you can use to make the whole process easier and to make it much more search engine friendly. There is a plugin for just about everything you can think of from title tag optimization and social bookmarking implementation to spam filtering.

4. If you have comments enabled and you moderate them closely to prevent spam, the content of each post will grow over time. Search Engines love updated content. How many times have each of the pages on your website been updated? I know many of my internal pages have not been because it’s almost unrealistic, as there are so many.

    Hey Josh,

I have a lot of static sites out there and have been “toying” with doing a blog. It seemed overwhelming, but I’ve seen a lot of good posts that are short and to the point.

On the bit about plugins, do you have a list available of the plugins you use to make the process flow easier.

As well, do you have a suggestion for a good theme. I have been using Headway Themes because of their good SEO aspect, but the learning curve is really getting to me.

Thanks for the good info, As always, I continue to be an avid follower.
